Dornsife Technology Services is constantly striving to meet the needs and requests of Dornsife faculty and staff members. Recently, we have been working on a project to simplify access to campus resources. Most Dornsife faculty and staff members have two accounts that provide them with access to campus resources. Those accounts are the USC NetID and the Dornsife Account. While the usernames were the same for both of these accounts, the passwords were unique. For some individuals, this created confusion about when to use the different passwords. Dornsife Technology Services, in conjunction with ITS and the other USC colleges, have been working on a password synchronization project. This project would synchronize the USC NetID and Dornsife Account passwords, meaning that faculty and staff members would only have a single password to use for electronic campus resources.
How It Works
On March 1, 2019, when you change your USC NetID or Dornsife Account passwords, it will synchronize both so that you only have one password. If you do not change your password, you will continue to have two passwords until one of them expires. As a result of the two passwords being synchronized, only the USC NetID complexity requirement will be required going forward. Your password will need to be 16 characters long, but does not need to contain symbols, capitalized characters, or numbers (although these elements are recommended).
You do not need to change your password at this time, unless you would like to take advantage of the single password use immediately. If you choose to wait to change your password, you will continue to have two passwords until you change your USC NetID password or your password expires.
